Yesterday I walked around Whitechapel, London where I lived and worked for more than 20 years. It seems to be changing faster now than ever before. I have posted a few images of the area today. This image is the site of the Crossrail station infront of the Sainsbury’s, once this new rail link to Heathrow opens Whitechapel of old will be gone forever. At present it is the last place in zone 1, north of the river which is still working class and poor but I guess the areas history of being a refuge for new immigrants is going to be lost. It is just over 100 years ago that my family arrived here escaping the pogroms in Russia, so it is deep inside of me, but you can’t stop progress if you can call it that.
