I will be back soon, just getting used to California again…
Winter is back in the UK, a perfect day to leave I think. I’m always sad to go but I have work to do and so I must get going. Mind you I hate travel days…time to get packing.
I went to a dinner after an opening this week, very nice to be invited. The dealer described the artist’s work as ‘beautiful very beautiful’ and this he said was very courageous and cutting edge. The reason for this was that the work had no meaning beyond the aesthetic and this was a radical move in a world full of art of ideas!
Absolutely brilliant move by the dealer, the best description of meaningless pretty art I have ever heard, I thought to myself I want to make a work which takes banality and beauty to the extreme but then I realised Jeff Koons has already done that. Still I want to keep it in the mix as an idea. As for Koons I’m looking forward to his upcoming show at Newport Street hopefully I’ll be here.
Looking forward to getting back to Los Angeles and back to work next week I have various issues and problems to solve in this current body of work but one of them is not the removal of meaning!
